Principal & Education Coordinator for Bethel Christian Academy 

Since 1954 Bethel Bible Village has provided safe, nurturing and Christ-centered homes on our Hixson campus. Bethel offers healing and hope to children and teens who have faced a life-changing crisis, or whose families have been impacted by crisis. Children ages 5-17, families, teen moms and their babies, are referred to Bethel by school counselors, partnering agencies and juvenile courts. Our residents in grades 6-12 attend school on our campus at Bethel Christian Academy.

Bethel Christian Academy (BCA) opened in 2007 and is an accredited Middle and High School offering individualized attention and instruction. With an average of 22-30 students, BCA is able to provide unique educational opportunities in collaboration with Bethel’s Social Workers, House Parents, counselors, therapists, and community partners. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping at-risk students earn diplomas and prepare for post-secondary educational opportunities.

Bethel is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Principal and Education Coordinator, which serves as the CEO of the school. The Principal:

  • Is responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum, activities, and budgets
  • Promotes the educational and spiritual development of each student and the professional and spiritual development of each staff member
  • Includes an Education Coordinator component, as it coordinates with other local schools to receive and transmit transcripts for our students
  • Participates in the admissions process for Bethel’s residents

Qualifications:

  • Spiritual:  Display a dynamic personal faith and be an active member of a local Christian church.
  • Education:  Current TN education certification with at least 5 years of educational experience and 2 or more years of team or administrative leadership required. Master’s degree in an education-related field Must have a current license to teach in TN.
  • Specific Skills:   Knowledge and experience in education administration and team leadership. Experience working with Middle and High School-aged-youth who may have academic, behavioral, and relational concerns is preferred.
  • Program Development: Must have at least 1 year of curriculum/program development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Evidence-Based Leadership: Must have experience in utilizing data to drive instruction and student growth. Must be able to interpret and apply assessment information to cultivate individual and differentiated learning that accelerates student learning because most BCA students arrive with severe educational deficits.
  • General Requirements:  Applicant must be lawfully authorized to work in the U.S., and successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and physical. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Essential Functions:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and previous computer experience required. Comfortable and effective presenting to and interacting with teams and community professionals to interpret BCA’s unique program and impacts to the community.
  • Must serve as liaison and team player between the other necessary sections of the overall ministry, of which the school is one part.
  • Commitment to Bethel Bible Village’s Code of Conduct and Employee Covenant.
  • Provide spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership to enable the school to fulfill its mission to provide an excellent education and to equip and inspire youth to live productive Christian lives.
  • Conceptualize the broad goals of the school and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out an effective educational program.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws related to operating a private school including staying current with latest trends and standards in education at the local, state, and national level.
  • Responsible for maintaining accreditation for BCA. Experience or leadership of AdvancEd/SACS accreditation is highly preferable.
  • Exercise creativity and sound judgment in exploring new ways to be at the cutting edge of services to children and their families using best practices.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to all school personnel, which currently includes a full-time Lead Educator, full-time Educator, (3) part-time Educators, and a part-time Administrative Assistant. Define the responsibilities of team members and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate activities and trainings which facilitate the professional growth of the school staff members and enhance the quality of the educational program. Ensure that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed, and involves the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program.
  • Evaluate student progress and strive to increase impacts and educational attainment by students. Maintain up-to-date student data. Experience with NWEA assessments is a plus.
  • Facilitate organizational efficiency by maintaining inter-school system communication and seeking assistance from other supportive staff to improve performance. Maintain positive working relationships with students, educational team, Bethel’s directors and Social Workers, and parents/guardians.
  • Encourage the collaboration with other community programs, agencies, and resources. Schedule field trips and educational opportunities. Cooperate with the use of school facilities.
  • Supports development efforts to raise funds to operate the school by serving as host for tours, spokesperson for BCA, involving volunteers when possible, and demonstrating effective outcomes for its students.
  • Development and grant writing/management experience preferable but not required.
  • Coordinates extra-curricular, after school, volunteer, and summer enrichment activities and opportunities.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date records on materials, supplies and equipment necessary to carry out the daily school routine. Experience with Title I funds management is a plus.
  • Responsible for recognition events such as fall and spring commencement ceremonies, awards, and milestone events.

Male House Parent

Bethel offers healing and hope to children and teens who have faced a life-changing crisis, or whose families have been impacted by crisis. Children ages 5 – 17, families, teen moms and their babies, are referred to Bethel by school counselors, partnering agencies and juvenile courts.

We are currently seeking a youth care worker to serve as a full-time missionary in a cottage of young men who are typically ages 14 -17. The position responsibilities are to provide direct care in a residential home for up to 8 boys in cooperation with a house parent couple. This live-in position is responsible for providing spiritual leadership, a positive social and moral example, encouraging the physical and social development of the youth, and contributing to the youths’ all around progress toward their individual goals.

Qualifications:

  • Spiritual: Display a dynamic personal faith and be an active member of a local Christian church.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred
  • Specific Skills: Minimum one year of youth related experience – educating, coaching, or working with school age children. Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills are required. Previous computer experience preferred.
  • License: Must have a valid driver’s license

House Parent Couple

Bethel Bible Village is a faith-based residential home for children of families in crisis. We are currently seeking a Christian married couple to serve as full-time missionaries in a cottage of up to eight school-aged young people. This is a live-in position that we are seeking to fill.

This position provides authority and leadership of the living unit. House Parents provide supervision of the children and home, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere in the home, and supporting the educational development of the youth. The position is also responsible for providing spiritual leadership, a positive social and moral example, encouraging the physical and social development of the youth, and contributing to the youths’ all around progress toward their individual goals.

Qualifications:

  • Spiritual: Be active participating Christians in a local congregation and commit to Bethel’s Code of Conduct and Employee Covenant
  • Education: High school diplomas or equivalent; college degrees preferred
  • Specific Skills: Minimum one year of youth related experience – educating, coaching, or working with school age children. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required; computer skills are preferred.
  • License: Valid driver’s licenses
  • Other Requirements: Couple must be married for at least 2 years with no more than two dependent children. Because of the live-in nature of the position, no more than two dogs are permitted and they must live outside. Minimum age requirement for this position is 21 years of age. Development Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW: Bethel is seeking a passionate individual to fill the position of Development Coordinator, who will help enhance the capabilities and growth of development efforts to support and grow Bethel’s Mission and impact. This new position is being created to assist Bethel’s Development Team to arrange and execute necessary functions of the development process.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Development

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, 20-25 hours/week, flexible

DEPARTMENT: Development

SUPERVISES: None

 

Development Coordinator Essential Functions:

  • Works in conjunction with the Development Team (development, marketing, communications, and social media) to effectively execute campaigns, events and activities
  • Maintains donor software and database, including a data conversion project
  • Assists in engagement of volunteer individuals and groups
  • Assists in scheduling of community outreach opportunities and campus tours
  • Provides support to Bethel’s community partners to promote collaboration and engagement
  • Assists with grant applications and reporting and grant research
  • Manages matching gift submissions of donors
  • Organizes details and record-keeping for special events
  • Provides support and contributes to Bethel’s Development Team to advance Mission
  • Represents Bethel Bible Village with the public by phone, electronically, and in-person
  • Assists Development Team in acknowledging of gifts and in cultivating new audiences

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Spiritual: Exhibits a dynamic personal faith and be an active member of a Christian church.
  • Education:  Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a position related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least one year of non-profit experience preferred.
  • Specific Skills:  Knowledge and experience in database management, marketing or public relations, volunteer management, and/or coordination of multiple tasks and assignments. Experience with grant writing and/or management is preferred.       Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and previous computer experience required.

Thrift Store Retail Associate – Part Time

Bethel Bible Village is a faith-based residential home for school-age children of families in crisis located in Hixson, TN. We have a part-time position available to serve within the Ministry Thrift Store. Work hours for this position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This role assists customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains the cash register; sorts and prices donated items; and maintains store cleanliness and safety. There is a sales bonus and clothing allowance for this position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

SPIRITUAL:  Be an active participating Christian in a local congregation.

EDUCATION:  High School diploma required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Previous sales and/or retail experience preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills required. Excellent customer service skills required. Must have the ability to sort items according to guidelines, be able to follow instructions, and work independently. The ability to operate a cash register including performing routine mathematical computations and counting change is required. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. A candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., and successfully pass a background check, drug screen and physical.
