In times like this, watching the news can leave you or your children feeling a bit anxious.
While we need to take practical steps to keep our families safe from coronavirus and flu, it’s not God’s plan for us to live in fear or anxiety. Here are five verses about his love and protection to help you see the news in a different light.
1. God is with you wherever you go
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)
2. God is a refuge and strength
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”
Psalm 46:1-2 (NIV)
3. God hears you when you cry out to Him
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.” Psalm 107:28 (NIV)
4. God is your faithful protector
“…The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” Thessalonians 3:2-3 (NIV)
5. Jesus is bigger than any virus
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NKJV)
Assuring Children and Grandchildren
For families, this is a time to be listening carefully to our children.
What is their level of understanding about the news they are hearing? When you listen to their concerns, you can better help them overcome fear and anxiety and make them feel protected.
