In times like this, watching the news can feel overwhelming. The enormity of natural catastrophes can make us feel anxious, sad and even fearful. Throw a personal life challenge on top of it all and the world begins to feel like a chaotic place.
While the Bible tells us that in this world we will have trouble and disaster, it also makes it clear that if we cry out to God, He is there to walk us through whatever crisis we face, even if it is the size of a hurricane.
Promises for the Storm
Whether you are facing a personal crisis today, or struggling to understand the storms that rock our world, here are three of God’s promises that offer comfort and hope:
1. God is with you in life’s storms
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”
Psalm 46:1-2 (NIV)
2. God hears you when you cry out to Him
“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.” Psalm 107:28 (NIV)
3. God is your faithful protector
“…The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” Thessalonians 3:2-3 (NIV)
For families, this is a time to be listening to children. What is their level of understanding about the storms your family is facing? When you take a moment to listen to their concerns, you can better alleviate their anxiety and help them feel protected.
